02/22/03 - Former Fairport student-athlete,
Cody Tatro, has been killed in an automobile accident. Cody, who graduated
from Fairport in 1995, was in his third year of teaching at a middle school
in Danville, CA. He also coached girls lacrosse at San Ramon Valley High
School. Cody played varsity basketball on the
93-94 team.
Calling hours are from 3-8 p.m. on Saturday,
1-3 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the Richard Keenan Funeral Home in Egypt.
The funeral service is at 1 p.m. Monday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in
Fairport.

12/21/02 - Girls' Junior Varsity wrapped
up a very strong week with two run-away wins. The team beat
Churchville Chili on December 17th by 29 points. The score at the final
buzzer was 48 to 19. The team faced Penfield on the 20th and won by an
even larger 34-point margin, defeating the Patriots 65-31. Mallory Kennedy
and Julie Marriott have been "unstoppable" in the words of one of our
one-the-scene reporters. Congratulations Raiders!

Sutherland on December 27th.

12/21/02 - Girls' varsity remains unbeaten with a 62-54 victory over
Penfield
Fairport’s 6-0 start in girls basketball
looked good on paper, but the team’s top players weren’t all that impressed.
“It wasn’t that pretty,” senior forward Liz Hahn explained. “We said it’s
about time we showed what we can do.”
What the Red Raiders did at Penfield on
Friday was come out on top 62-54 in a matchup of undefeated Monroe County
Division I teams after playing their best game of the season.

in the first quarter, and Kristin Olejarczyk scored all 11 of her points in the

a 10-foot bank shot as time expired to give Fairport a 60-59 win over Greece
Arcadia in Monroe County girls basketball on Saturday.
Sabrina Boykin brought the ball up the right side of the court and found
Hahn to the left of the key with three seconds left in the game.
The lead switched hands five times in the final 1 minute, 30 seconds.

12/4/02 H.S. girls basketball: Fairport tops Brockport
Democrat and Chronicle
(December 4, 2002) — FAIRPORT — Senior guard/forward Liz Hahn scored 20
points as Fairport held off a late Brockport run to defeat the Blue Devils
58-46 in a Monroe County league game Tuesday.
Senior Sabrina Boykin added 12 points and Kristin Olejarczyk scored 10 for
the Red Raiders (1-0).
Brockport pulled within five points midway through the fourth quarter, but
after a time out, Hahn, a second-team AGR player last year, hit a two-point
basket to stifle the Blue Devil’s run.
Junior Jen Leasure scored 21 points for Brockport (1-1).

The Winningest Coach in High
School Basketball history retires:
Morgan Wootten,
Naismith Men's Prep Coach of the 20th Century, began coaching in
1956. Forty-six years later, with an astounding record of 1,274
wins and only 192 losses, Coach Wootten retires at age 71. Read the AP

"The Fitches of Fairport were the center
of attention. Jeff served as long-time coach of the Fairport Red Raiders.
In 33 seasons, he won 406 games, nine coach of the year honors and one
sectional title.
Joining his Jeff Fitch in the hall is his
son Scott, a standout guard in high school who went on to become Division
III's Player of the Year at Geneseo. Last year, he replaced Jeff as the
Fairport boy's coach."

05/06/02 Caitlin Howe to play for Duke
-Women's basketball head coach Gail
Goestenkors signed Australian standout Jessica Foley to attend Duke and
play basketball in 2002-03. She joins first-team Parade All-America Brooke
Smith, second-team Parade All-America Mistie Bass, second-team Parade
All-America Lindsey Harding and Caitlin Howe as one of the
top-rated recruiting classes in the nation. In April, the 2002-03 team was
ranked second nationally in the "Very Early Bird Preseason Top 50"
