In a game originally scheduled for January 3rd
but postponed due to weather, the varsity Red Raiders traveled to Webster to
take on the Schroeder Warriors and came home with a 65-48 victory.
The Raiders jumped out to a quick and
commanding first-quarter lead, completing the first quarter of play with a 14-1
lead. Scoring in the second quarter was almost even with the Warriors pouring in
20 points to Fairport's 19. Score at the half was 33-21 in favor of the Raiders.
Schroeder again outscored the Raiders by one in the third quarter but could only
manage to cut the deficit to 11 points. The Raiders added 19 points to their
tally in the fourth quarter to finish the game with 65.
Highlights for the contest would include four
Red Raiders scoring in double-digits lead by Cory Magee's 16. Brett Havens added
14 while Ryan McAdams and Eric Snider contributed 11 and 10 points respectively.
Snider, Magee and McAdams also controlled the boards with 10, 9 and 7 rebounds
respectively.
Though the Raiders had a sub-par evening at the
free-throw line, hitting only 18 of 31 foul shots (58%), and though they did
turn the ball over 24 times in the contest, they did pull together for a total
of 35 rebounds. Defensively, they held the Warriors to a single point in the
first quarter and never relinquished their lead.
