Once again,
Fairport's cheerleaders wowed the judges and fans at the Blue Cross Arena on
Saturday when the Freshmen and JV squads took first place in their divisions
and Varsity placed fourth in the Greater Rochester Cheerleading and Dance
Championships. All three squads competed in categories reserved for groups
with the most complicated and difficult routines. The athletes generated
remarkably high scores despite a week plagued by illness -- half the JV
squad was out of school and unable to practice the week before the
competition.
Fairport's spectators, with their unmistakable sea of red clothing and
chants led by Jim Patterson and Bill Poray, drew the admiration of the
packed arena. Special thanks go to the Cheerleading Booster Club members who
were first in line at the box office and secured the best seats in the house
for the always large and enthusiastic Fairport contingent. The Varsity
basketball team and coach also attended to support the amazing Varsity
cheerleaders, who are saving their best performance for a competition in
Florida later this month.Though the stats were not posted at press
time, check the
Greater
Rochester Cheer and Dance website for more details on this year's
competition.
