(February 20, 2003) — No. 9 Penfield 60, No. 8 Webster Schroeder 56:
Joe Allevato hit a free throw with four seconds left to seal the win for
Penfield. C.J. Pruner hit two free throws with 30 seconds left in the game to
give Penfield a 3-point lead. Mike Smith hit a 3-pointer with six seconds to
bring Schroeder within three points.
Allevato went 7-for-10 in the fourth quarter.
Jay Murphy and Greg Silverman each had 10 rebounds for the Patriots. Joe
Jackson had seven rebounds and Pruner had five assists for Penfield (7-14).
This is Penfield’s first sectional win in eight years.
Schroeder (6-15) beat Penfield twice during the regular season.
No. 7 Edison 65, No. 10 Churchville-Chili 31: Edison honored head
cheerleading coach Bernice Robinson and boys basketball coach Dick O’Toole,
who are both retiring after the season. O’Toole logged 33 years as varsity
head coach of the Inventors.
Brandon Williams posted 22 points, grabbed 8 rebounds and had 2 blocks for
Edison (9-12).
The Inventors have won seven of their last eight games.
Kenny Davis scored eight of his 12 points in the first quarter for Edison.
Tom Hammel totaled eight points to lead the Saints (1-20).
