Today's matchups open busy week of basketball
playoffs for Section V

(February 24, 2003) — Section V basketball returns to Blue Cross Arena at the
War Memorial tonight with Irondequoit facing the daunting task of playing
McQuaid, the nation’s No. 2 team. The 15-6 Eagles play 21-0 McQuaid in the
Class A semifinals at 8:45.
“What I was looking for today was a snowstorm and for them to cancel the
tournament until next year when those guys graduate,” joked Irondequoit coach
“They have size, they shoot the ball as well as any team I’ve seen, maybe
ever, they’re unselfish, they play hard and they’re well coached. On top of
that, they’re very experienced.”
Earlier in the Class CCC semifinals, No. 4 Letchworth (14-7) plays No. 1 Le
Roy (20-1) and Brendan Fulmer at 5:45 p.m., followed by No. 3 Williamson
(14-6) vs. No. 2 Wellsville (19-2) at 7:15.
The McQuaid-Irondequoit winner will meet the winner of Tuesday’s 8:45 p.m.
semifinal between No. 7 Marshall (11-10) and No. 3 Greece Arcadia (15-6).
Arcadia beat Marshall 66-50 in the Martin Luther King Classic behind the
3-point shooting of Brendon Meier and Nashon Miller.
Also Tuesday, two of the area’s top point guards square off when C.J. Lee and
Pittsford Sutherland (11-11) play Chris Shalvoy and No. 4 Pittsford Mendon
(15-6) at 5:45. No. 3 Geneva (17-4) plays No. 2 Batavia (19-2) at 7:15 p.m.
There will be a first Wednesday night at the Blue Cross Arena: The Class A
girls championship between Hilton and Spencerport, followed by a boys Class AA
No. 1 Rush-Henrietta (20-1) will play No. 5 East High (13-8) at
7 p.m., followed by No. 2 Fairport (18-3) against No. 3 Greece
