Roe scores nine of her 19 points in the third quarter as Red Raiders advance

Staff reports

(February 22, 2004) — Sophomore guard Jonna Roe scored a career-high 19 points as ninth-seeded Fairport defeated eighth-seeded Edison Tech 60-41 in a Section V Class AAA girls basketball play-in game at Edison on Saturday.

Roe scored nine points in the third quarter as the Red Raiders (3-16) pulled away.

Senior forward Janette Westman and junior forward Steph Lackey also set career highs in points for Fairport. Westman scored 13 and Lackey had nine.

Fairport went 21-2 last year and lost in the Class AAA final, but lost 10 seniors after the season.

“We had many close games during the year and it was good to get a nice team win,” Fairport coach Kermit Moyer said. “It’s the start of the second season, so it’s really important. Definitely a positive to start the sectional tournament.”

Nia Cooper scored 14 points for Edison, which finished 3-16.
