Fairport cheerleaders win national competition

(March 10, 2004) — The Fairport High School varsity cheerleading squad placed
first at the U.S. Open National Cheerleading Tournament at Orlando, Fla., on
Sunday.
Fairport defeated five Florida teams in the Large Varsity division, posting a
final score of 334.86 points.
The Red Raiders defeated Archbishop of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., by two points.
“They went out and had the best time of their lives,” said Fairport coach
Elaine Deignan. “This was their best performance at any tournament this year.”
The Red Raiders also received the Hall of Fame award, given to two schools out
of more than 200 competing. The award is given to teams with outstanding
performance, elite skill level and excellent showmanship.
Fairport placed second last year to Lourdes Academy.
