Brockport tops Fairport in 2 overtimes

(December 11, 2004) Kelley VanDenburg hit a free throw with five seconds remaining in double overtime as Brockport edged Fairport 72-69 in Monroe County girls basketball Friday.

Shannon O'Mealia converted a layup after Brockport broke through a press to give the Blue Devils a 71-69 lead with 10 seconds to go in the second overtime. Brockport employed a press to force a jump ball and received possession.

Claire Howe missed a last-second 3-pointer for Fairport (1-1, 2-1).

Brockport led by five in the first overtime before Howe scored five points to send the game to double-overtime. Howe finished with 17 and nailed four 3-pointers.

Lindsay Hage scored 13 and had 6 assists before fouling out and Cate Lafrance added 11 for Brockport (1-1, 2-1).

Gabrielle Boley scored 25 of her 27 points after halftime and added 20 rebounds.

"As I told the kids, it was a test in perseverance," Brockport coach Kathy Boughton said. "The key was getting Boley more involved in our offense."

Jonna Roe had 15 and Mallory Kennedy added 13 for the Red Raiders.
