Last week the Fairport JV boy’s basketball team hosted
a holiday tournament which included Edison, Athena, and Lockport. In a rematch
of an earlier game the Raiders played Edison. Kevin Borden scored 8 of his
game high 20 points in the first quarter to help Fairport build a 24 to 12
lead. The Raiders continued to outscore the Inventors in the second quarter to
lead 41 to 22 at the half. Fairport held on to the lead the second half to go
on to win 65 to 53. Others scoring for Fairport were Mark Bruce with 17,
Travis Condello with 9, Kyle Downey with 6, Greg Fitter with 4, Tyler Launer
with 3, Nick Pelusio and Brian Gebhardt with 2. Also playing and contributing
to the win were Dan Moreno, Tyler Simon, Jeff Visco, and Chris Hare.
In the championship game the Raiders played an
undefeated Greece Athena team. Athena hit 3 three pointers in the first
quarter to take the lead 20 to 19. The Raiders held Athena to 6 points in the
second quarter to go ahead by one at the half, 27 to 26. Fairport outscored
Athena 20 to 13 to take an 8 point lead into the final period. Kyle Downey
made 5 of 6 foul shots in the final quarter to help Fairport maintain their
lead and go on to win 60 to 54. Leading the scoring for Fairport was Borden
with 22 points. Also scoring were Downey with 14, Bruce with 8, Fitter with 5,
Condello with 4, Pelusio with 4, Launer with 2, and Gebhardt with 1. The
Raiders improved to 6-0.
