THE BIRDS EYE FOODS-SECTION V BASKETBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK FOR BOTH BOYS AND GIRLS GETS UNDERWAY TODAY AND WILL CONTINUE THROUGH FEBRUARY

The selection of Basketball Players of the Week for both boys and girls in Section V gets under way today and will continue through February. The program will be sponsored for the second year by Birds Eye Foods whose headquarters are based in Rochester. The selection of the players each week will be made by coaches, former coaches, and athletic directors in association with active coaches who offer their counsel. Players who are chosen receive certificates suitable for framing.

Boys' Basketball Girls' Basketball

ALLEGANY COUNTY:
Aaron Martin of Fillmore High … The sophomore point guard played against Alfred Almond twice last week, once in a tournament and a second time in a regular scheduled game, scoring 38 points in one game and 21 points in the other. He also scored 8 points against Arkport. Martin is currently averaging 22.3 points per game. He is also leading the Eagles in assists.
FINGER LAKES EAST:
Kevin Lowry of Midlakes
He was named the Most Valuable Player of the Livonia Tip-Off Tournament, scoring 34 points and nine assists in wins over Gananda and Marcus Whitman.
FINGER LAKES WEST:
Andy Platt of Red Jacket … The senior forward was named the Most Valuable Player in the Wayne Central Tip-Off Tourney. He was a key figure in wins last week over DeSales, Wayne and Bloomfield. On the week, he scored a total of 45 points, 24 rebounds, and 12 blocks.
GENESEE REGION:
Ryan Byrnes of Elba … The 6'4" senior forward scored 24 points along with 12 rebounds in a 3 point loss to Lyndonville. He also scored 14 points and 11 rebounds in a win over Albion.
INDEPENDENTS:
Bill Kent of Aquinas Institute … The 6'1" junior scored a 3 pointer with just five seconds remaining to defeat Victor 48 to 46. For the game itself, Kent scored 14 points and had 8 rebounds and was named to the All Tourney team.
LIVINGSTON COUNTY LARGE SCHOOLS:
Bobby Ghostlaw of Honeoye Falls-Lima … Ghostlaw scored 23 points including five 3 point baskets in the finals of the Victor Tournament, losing to Aquinas 52 to 41. In two other games, both wins, Ghostlaw scored 24 and 27 points. In the three games he had a total of 14 rebounds, 10 steals, and 10 3-point baskets.
LIVINGSTON COUNTY SMALL SCHOOLS:
Steve Coleman of Avon … A strong defensive player, Coleman has helped the Braves win its first two games. He is averaging 9 points per game, 8 rebounds and 3 steals.
MONROE COUNTY I:
Anthony Rogers of Brockport … Rogers led the Blue Devils to the championship of the Coaches vs. Cancer Tourney at Spencerport. In game 1, he scored 18 points, had 11 rebounds, 10 assists and 11 steals. In game 2, he scored 23 points, 5 steals, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists.
MONROE COUNTY II:
Adam Brown of Greece Athena … Brown led the Trojans to the championship of the Greece Tournament, scoring 17 points and 8 rebounds in game 1. Then in game 2, he scored 12 points and had 8 rebounds. He was named the tourney’s MVP.
MONROE COUNTY III:
Mike Chmielowiec of Batavia High … Chmielowiec had two outstanding games in the Coaches vs. Cancer tourney, grabbing 30 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals in the first game. In the second, he had 28 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists. He was named to the All Tournament team.
ROCHESTER CITY CATHOLIC LEAGUE:
Waryn McCullough of Wilson Magnet High … The 6'3" junior played a key role in the Wildcats’ two wins last week. Against the School of the Arts, he poured in 20 points and had 11 rebounds. Against Bishop Kearney, he scored 14 points and had eight rebounds. He is also an honor roll student.
STEUBEN COUNTY:
Brody Flint of Addison High … The senior guard had a banner week, leading the Knights to two wins and one loss. In a win over Dansville, he scored 35 points, then in a win over Rushford, he put up 30 points. In the loss to Hammondsport, he poured in 33 points.
WAYNE COUNTY:
Tom Horton of Lyons … The 6 ft. senior guard was named the MVP last week of the Waterloo Tip-Off Tourney and it’s no wonder why. In the opening round, he scored 26 points putting away Mynderse Academy. Then on the following night, he scored 20 points to help win the championship game against Waterloo. In the two games, he sank eight 3-point baskets. In the championship game, he connected on four 3-pointers in 5 tries.

ALLEGANY COUNTY:
Gabe Ziomek of Genesee Valley … Had 24 points, 15 rebounds, six assists and 11 steals in two games at the Allegany-Limestone Tournament. She was voted a Tournament All-Star.
GENESEE REGION:
Elise George of Attica … A 5'1" senior guard, George had 26 points in the two games of the Elba Tip-Off Tournament. She shot 85% from the floor against Albion and was selected to the All Tournament Team.
FINGER LAKES EAST:
Kaitlin Hollenbeck of Wayne … The 6 ft. sophomore forward had 24 points, 16 rebounds and eight blocked shots in two games while being named MVP of the Midlakes Tip-Off Tournament.
FINGER LAKES WEST:
Amanda Zonneville of Red Jacket … The 5'9" senior forward had 45 points and 25 rebounds in her team’s first two games of the season.
INDEPENDENTS:
Traci Cavanaugh of Lima Christian … The 5'10" junior forward had 12 of her 15 points in the second half of her team’s 57-51 win over Greece Odyssey.
LIVINGSTON COUNTY I:
Lyndsay Murphy of Hornell … Murphy, a 5'6" sophomore guard, averaged 23.5 points in leading Hornell to a 3-0 start including the York Tournament Championship. Murphy was named tourney MVP.
LIVINGSTON COUNTY II:
Courtney Kingston of Geneseo … Kingston, a 5'10" sophomore forward averaged 11.5 points and 13.5 rebounds in Geneseo’s victories over Notre Dame of Batavia and Caledonia-Mumford.
MONROE COUNTY I:
Katie Sullivan of Churchville-Chili … The senior guard had 41 points, 10 rebounds, 11 steals and seven assists last week against West Seneca.
MONROE COUNTY II:
Megan Shoniker of Arcadia … The sophomore guard had 85 points, eight rebounds, eight steals and 10 assists in two wins last week. Set school record with 48 points against Pittsford Sutherland. Named MVP of the Arcadia Tournament.
MONROE COUNTY III:
Kirsten McClain of Brighton … The forward had 42 points and 17 rebounds in two games last week. Was named to the All Tournament team in the Brockport tournament.
PRIVATE/PAROCHIAL SCHOOLS:
Betsy Jacobsen of Mercy … The 5'11" sophomore forward scored in double figures in both points and rebounds against CBA Syracuse and Greece Athena in the Mercy Tip-Off Tournament.
ROCHESTER LEAGUE:
Emma Cannon of the School of the Arts … The 6 ft. sophomore center had 10 points, 15 rebounds and nine blocked shots in a loss against Nardin Academy and 16 points, 17 rebounds and 10 blocked shots in a win over Aquinas.
STEUBEN COUNTY:
Lucy Zver of Jasper-Troupsburg … The 5'9" senior forward averaged 20 points and 17 rebounds in Jasper-Troupsburg’s three wins last week. She was also named MVP for the Jasper-Troupsburg Tip-Off Tournament.
WAYNE COUNTY:
Merrick Volpe of Clyde Savannah … A junior guard, Volpe scored 49 points, grabbed 19 rebounds, had 10 steals and eight assists in two victories last week.

THE BEGINNING OF THE HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL SEASON IN SECTION V HAS CAST THE BIRDS EYE FOODS SPOTLIGHT ON BOTH THE BOYS AND THE GIRLS

The high school basketball season is still young but both the boys and girls are already showing their stuff. To wit, Nate Brumfield of Rochester East High had two games last week where he scored 40 and 35 points, John Eshleman of Bloomfield who scored 25 and 42 points, pushing his career total to over 1,000 points, and Pete Loney of Byron-Bergen who last week scored 31 points in one game and 29 in another. But there are many others, too, who are rolling up large scores earning Birds Eye Foods-Section V Players of the Week designations.

The girls are also attracting spotlights with their aggressive play and great shooting ability. Take for example Nikki McGraw of Whitesville who last week showed her stuff in three games, winning two of them, scoring 37 points, grabbing 26 rebounds, and making 25 steals, 8 blocked shots, and four assists, and Sarah Schreiner of Livonia who led the Bulldogs to wins over both Aquinas and Dansville, scoring a total of 39 points and clutching 21 rebounds. There were others, too, that you’ll read about in this article.

ALLEGANY COUNTY:
Zach Coleman of Whitesville … The 6'5" senior center had 15 points and 11 rebounds in a win over Friendship and 30 points and 12 rebounds in a victory over Houghton Academy. Whitesville is 4 and 1.
FINGER LAKES EAST:
John Michael Ramsey of Penn Yan … The senior guard scored 29 points against Waterloo and 23 against Mynderse as the Mustangs won both games last week.
FINGER LAKES WEST:
John Eshleman of Bloomfield … The 6'3" senior center scored 25 points against DeSales pushing his career total over 1,000 points and two days later had a career high of 42 points against Honeoye. He has led the Bombers to a 3 and 0 record thus far in the Finger Lakes West and 4 and 1 overall.
GENESEE REGION:
Pete Loney of Byron-Bergen … The senior guard scored 31 points including seven 3 pointers in a win over Pembroke and followed that performance with 29 points and four three-point baskets in a win over Kendall.
INDEPENDENTS:
Alec Carney of Webster Christian … Carney spearheaded the Warriors three wins last week, scoring 34 points in a 65 to 63 win over West Seneca, 18 points in a 77 to 27 win over the Gow School, and 26 points in a 69 to 51 win over Lima Christian.
LIVINGSTON COUNTY LARGE SCHOOLS: Roy Williams of Bath … Williams scored 10 points, had 9 rebounds, and played a suburb defensive game in a win over Mt. Morris.
LIVINGSTON COUNTY SMALL SCHOOLS:
Eric Kanouse of Keshequa …Kanouse scored 21 points and grabbed 21 rebounds in a disappointing loss to Pavilion. He also scored 16 points and had 5 rebounds in a loss to Letchworth.
MONROE COUNTY I:
Jimmie Dillard of Gates-Chili … Dillard scored 16 points in a win over Penfield and 29 points in a cross-over win against Mendon.
MONROE COUNTY II:
Josh Zenkel of Webster Thomas … Zenkel scored 27 points and grabbed nine rebounds in a win over Greece Athena and 14 points in a win over Irondequoit.
MONROE COUNTY III:
Tom Schiller of Brighton … Schiller scored eight points in a win over rival Pittsford-Sutherland and nine points in a win over Greece Odyssey.
ROCHESTER CITY CATHOLIC LEAGUE:
Nate Brumfield of East High … The senior forward gave two outstanding performances in last week's action. Against Henninger High of Syracuse, Brumfield scored 40 points along with 17 rebounds and seven assists. Against Marshall Brumfield scored 35 points, had 14 rebounds and 10 assists.
STEUBEN COUNTY:
Kyle Gifford of Prattsburg … The 5'10" senior forward had a banner week scoring 72 points, pulling down 20 rebounds and 10 assists in leading the Vikingsd to three wins last week. He scored 32 points on Saturday night in a 58-48 win at Notre Dame of Batavia. He sank six out of six foul shots in the last 45 seconds.
WAYNE COUNTY CO-PLAYERS OF THE WEEK:
Robert McDowell and Greg Logins both of Sodus High … Senior guard McDowell scored 16 points and had 8 rebounds against Lyons and 19 points in a win over Clyde-Savannah. 6'5" junior forward Greg Logins scored 23 points against Lyons and had 11 points and 8 rebounds against Clyde-Savannah. The Spartans are 4 and 0.
ALLEGANY COUNTY:
Nikki McGraw of Whitesville … McGraw had 37 points, 26 rebounds, 25 steals, eight blocked shots and four assists in wins against Elkland (PA) and Campbell-Savona and a loss against Oswago (PA).
GENESEE REGION:
Christine Halter of Kendall … A 6'2" senior center, Halter averaged 20 points, 12 rebounds and three blocked shots in her team's victories over Byron-Bergen and Oakfield-Alabama.
FINGER LAKES EAST:
Vanessa Chain of Waterloo … The junior forward had 16 points, 10 rebounds, five steals, three assists and two blocked shots against Penn Yan and 13 points, 10 rebounds, three steals, two assists and one blocked shot against Marcus Whitman.
FINGER LAKES WEST:
Jessica Ainslie of Honeoye … The 5'9" junior forward had 26 points and 21 rebounds over two games.
INDEPENDENTS:
Caroline Gorelli of C.G. Finney … The senior guard had 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in a 47-37 win over Northstar.
LIVINGSTON COUNTY I:
Sarah Schreiner of Livonia … Schreiner, a 5'8" senior forward, had 14 points, and six rebounds against Dansville and had 25 points in a win over Aquinas.
LIVINGSTON COUNTY II:
Sarah Ellis of Perry … Ellis, a 5'11" senior forward, registered two double-doubles in wins over Warsaw and Mt. Morris last week. Her combined totals were 32 points and 29 rebounds.
MONROE COUNTY I:
Jasmine Lee of Rush-Henrietta … The senior guard averaged 12 points, five assists and three steals in wins against Hilton and Penfield.
MONROE COUNTY II:
Kiomi Matthews of Irondequoit … The senior forward averaged 17.5 points, 14 rebounds and four blocked shots in wins over Arcadia and Webster Thomas.
MONROE COUNTY III:
Missy Thornton of Batavia … The junior forward averaged 11 points, nine rebounds, four steals and four assists in two games last week.
PRIVATE/PAROCHIAL SCHOOLS:
Chelsea Sanders of Aquinas … The 6 ft. freshman center scored 10 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in a victory over Bishop Kearney and scored 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds in a victory over Franklin.
ROCHESTER LEAGUE:
Brittany Williams of Wilson … The 5'9" sophomore forward had 11 points and 10 rebounds in a win over Franklin and 15 points, seven rebounds and six steals in a win over Gates-Chili.

Allison Smith of Williamson … A 5'10" junior guard, Smith averaged 13 points and seven rebounds last week for Williamson.

3-POINT BASKETS ASSUMING GREATER IMPORTANCE IN HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL; FEMALE PLAYERS SCORING MORE BASKETS AND GETTING MORE REBOUNDS

The 3-point basket in high school basketball is assuming more importance as the younger players gain more shooting skills. Take for example Ryan Henry of Rush-Henrietta who last week sank a total of six 3-pointers in wins over Hilton and Churchville-Chili, helping him win the Birds Eye Foods-Section V Player of the Week in Monroe I. Then consider Matt Newman of Campbell-Savona High who also won a Player of the Week award last week in Steuben County. He is currently shooting 73 percent from 3-point range, higher than college players do.

Girls are also scoring more points and gathering in more rebounds than ever. Take for example Alicia Gordon of Bolivar-Richburg. In four games last week she scored a total of 83 points and pulled down 45 rebounds. Then there’s Lisa Button of undefeated Jasper-Troupsburg. In just two games last week she scored 22 points, had 16 rebounds, 13 steals, and 19 assists. Both girls earned the Birds Eye Foods-Section V Player of the Week award.

Jason Szabo of Wellsville High … The 6'5" senior center poured in 21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in a 55 to 48 win over Hornell and 19 points and 14 rebounds in an 88 to 60 win over Portville (NY).
FINGER LAKES EAST:
Phil Scott of Marcus Whitman … The Wildcats forward had a productive week with wins over both Midlakes and Penn Yan. Against Midlakes, Scott scored 26 points and pulled down 14 rebounds. Against Penn Yan he had 19 points and 11 rebounds.
FINGER LAKES WEST:
Rick McCulloch of Romulus Central … The junior guard led the Warriors to wins over both Marion and DeSales of Geneva. Against Marion he scored 21 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. Against DeSales, he had 18 points and 15 rebounds.
GENESEE REGION:
Brian Lang of Lyndonville … The 6'1" senior guard had 20 points and seven assists as Lyndonville defeated Notre Dame of Batavia. Lang also had 20 points, eight assists, and six rebounds in a win over Wheatland Chili. The Tigers are off to their best start in school history.

LIVINGSTON COUNTY LARGE SCHOOLS:
Bobby Ghostlaw of Honeoye Falls-Lima … Ghostlaw won his second Birds Eye Foods-Section V Player of the Week award with wins last week over Bath and Livonia. Honeoye Falls-Lima also lost to Brockport in a game played in the Gund Arena in Cleveland. In their match against Bath, Ghostlaw scored 19 points, had five assists, and four steals in a 59 to 21 one-sided game. In the 57 to 47 win over Livonia, Ghostlaw scored 21 points, had four assists, 3 steals, and went 10 of 11 from the free throw line. He also scored 13 points in the fourth quarter to help sink the Bulldogs. He scored 9 points in the loss to Brockport.
LIVINGSTON COUNTY SMALL SCHOOLS:
Kirk Baker of Warsaw Central …Baker scored 17 points, five of them 3 pointers, in a 51 to 36 loss to Letchworth. Baker also scored 17 points including three 3-point baskets in a 50 to 47 win over LeRoy.
MONROE COUNTY I:
Ryan Henry of Rush-Henrietta … The R-H sparkplug scored 17 points including three 3-point baskets in a win over Hilton and 22 points including three 3-point baskets in a win over Churchville-Chili.
MONROE COUNTY II:
Kevin Kelley of Greece Olympia … Kelley scored a 3-point basket to send the Spartans in to overtime against Irondequoit. All told, Kelley scored 23 points in the overtime win over the Eagles.
MONROE COUNTY III:
Greg Miller of Pittsford Sutherland … Miller helped the Knights to win over Greece Odyssey and crosstown rival Pittsford Mendon, scoring nine against Odyssey and 22 against Mendon.
ROCHESTER CITY CATHOLIC LEAGUE:
A. J. Rutledge of Wilson Magnet High … The 6'2" senior forward scored 25 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in a 73 to 59 win over McQuaid Jesuit High.
STEUBEN COUNTY:
Matt Newman of Campbell-Savona … The 5'11" junior point guard led the Panthers to their fifth consecutive win, scoring 13 points, grabbing 6 rebounds, and 5 assists in a 72 to 32 win over Addison. Newman is shooting 73% from 3-point range this season, higher than most college players.
WAYNE COUNTY:
J. R. Williams of Gananda … The 6'1" sophomore forward had a highly-productive week, scoring 16 points against Clyde-Savannah and 22 points and 20 rebounds against Lyons. The two wins enabled the Blue Panthers to tie Sodus for first place.
ALLEGANY COUNTY:
Alicia Gordon of Bolivar-Richburg … The 5'10" senior guard had 22, 17, 23, and 21 points as well as 20, 8, 7 and 10 rebounds respectively in wins over Canisteo-Greenwood, Houghton Academy, Oswayo Valley, and a loss to Franklinville. The 20 rebounds she had against Canisteo-Greenwood established a new Bolivar-Richburg school record.
GENESEE REGION:
Johna Titus of Alexander … A 5'10" senior forward, Titus had 20 points, 14 rebounds, five steals in a loss to Notre Dame of Batavia. This followed three games in which she had three triple doubles.
FINGER LAKES EAST:
Kelli Poles of Canandaigua … The senior forward scored 20 points against Wayne and 32 points against Victor.
FINGER LAKES WEST:
Brittany White of Bloomfield … The 5'8" freshman guard scored 14 points including a three-pointer with 1:30 left to seal a win over South Seneca.
INDEPENDENTS:
Jenny Miller of Webster Christian … This 5'6" junior guard had 11 points and grabbed 14 rebounds in a win over Prattsburg.
LIVINGSTON COUNTY I:
Amanda Coots of Bath … Coots, a 5'9" junior forward had 14 points, including four three-pointers against Honeoye Falls-Lima and 11 points, five rebounds and three assists against Wayland-Cohocton.
LIVINGSTON COUNTY II:
Jackie Murphy of Perry … Murphy, a 6'1" senior guard, combined for 39 points, 18 rebounds, 13 assists, eight steals and eight blocked shots in wins over Letchworth and LeRoy.
MONROE COUNTY I:
Shenise Johnson of Rush-Henrietta … The freshman forward averaged 24 points and 13 rebounds in wins over Gates-Chili and Mt. Mercy (Buffalo).
MONROE COUNTY II:
Corrine Keller of Greece Athena … The senior forward averaged 22 points and 11 rebounds in wins over Greece Olympia and Greece Arcadia.
MONROE COUNTY III:

Sierra Speed of Nazareth … The 5'8" junior guard scored 10 points with four assists in a win over Buffalo Traditional and 24 points, five assists and five steals in a loss to Holy Angel (Buffalo).
ROCHESTER LEAGUE:
Naomi Alexander of Wilson … The 5'8" junior guard had 20 points in a win over School of the Arts, 20 points in a win over Edison and 17 points in a win over Batavia.
STEUBEN COUNTY:
Lisa Button of Jasper-Troupsburg … Button, a junior guard, has led J-T to an 8-0 record. Last week she had 22 points, 16 rebounds, 13 steals and 19 assists in wins over Bradford and Wellsville.
WAYNE COUNTY:
Rachel Bruno of Clyde-Savannah … A 5'7" senior guard, Bruno had 40 points and 19 rebounds in two wins last week.

BASKETBALL CONTINUES TO BE AN EXCITING SPORT AT THE HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL

High school basketball has thrilled fans for nearly 100 years and the excitement continues. For example, last week Billy Kent of Aquinas Institute scored the winning basket with only two seconds remaining in a 53 to 51 win over rival McQuaid to win the game and earn the Birds Eye Foods-Section V Player of the Week award. Then Keven Mettler of Dansville had 25 points and nine rebounds to help defeat Addison in overtime. He also earned a Player of the Week award.

The girls generate lots of excitement, too. Kate Donahue of Aquinas scored nine points including the go-ahead basket with only two minutes remaining in a 48-45 upset win over Pittsford Mendon. She also won a Birds Eye-Section V Player of the Week award. So too did Hollie Rinaldo of Midlakes whose 18 rebounds made the difference in a 39 to 30 win over Penn Yan.

ALLEGANY COUNTY:
Andy Evans of Genesee Valley High … The 6-foot-2 senior forward had two double doubles last week with 15 points and 15 rebounds in a 57 to 48 loss to Whitesville and 10 points and 16 rebounds in a 60 to 29 win over Fillmore. Evans has helped lead the jaguars to a 7 and 1 record so far this season.
FINGER LAKES EAST:
Anthony Hall of Palmyra-Macedon … The No. two guard led the Raiders to wins last week over both Livonia and Wayne. Hall scored 22 points against Livonia and 23 against Wayne. He also had 10 rebounds against Wayne. So far this season, Hall is averaging 27 points per game, among the highest in Section V.
FINGER LAKES WEST:
Bo Manion of Desales High, Geneva … Manion led the Saints to a 55 to 38 win over South Seneca, scoring 27 points and pulling down nine rebounds.
GENESEE REGION:
Rick Mancuso of Notre Dame of Batavia … The 6-foot-4 senior forward scored 24 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, six steals and four blocked shots in a 60 to 28 win over Attica. He also made five out of seven three-point baskets.
INDEPENDENTS:
Billy Kent of Aquinas Institute … Kent had an unforgettable night for the Little Irish in its 53 to 51 win over rival McQuaid at the Roberts Wesleyan College Gym. Not only did Kent lead the Little Irish in scoring with 18 points but he also spearheaded a 17 to 6 third quarter run that gave Aquinas the lead but he also scored the winning basket with just two seconds remaining. In the third quarter spurt, he connected on two three-point baskets.
LIVINGSTON COUNTY SMALL SCHOOLS:
Kevin Mettler of Dansville … Mettler scored 25 points and had nine rebounds in a 68 to 63 overtime win against Addison.
LIVINGSTON COUNTY LARGE SCHOOLS:
Andrew Hempsling of LeRoy … Hempsling scored 27 points, had five assists and five steals in a 66 to 46 win over Keshequa.
MONROE COUNTY I:
Tyler Mutton of Brockport High … Mutton scored 18 points, 16 in the first half and grabbed 11 rebounds and had six assists in a win over Pittsford Mendon.
MONROE COUNTY II:
Chris Greene of Arcadia … Greene scored 20 points in a win over Pittsford Sutherland and 27 points in a win over division rival Greece Athena.
MONROE COUNTY III:
Andrew Hosack of Eastridge, East Irondequoit … Hosack scored 27 points, 14 in the fourth quarter and pulled down 14 rebounds to help earn the Lancers their first win of the season, 62 to 51 win over Spencerport.
ROCHESTER CITY-CATHOLIC LEAGUE:
Pablo Correa of Marshall High … Correa was a key factor in the Jurists upset win over Batavia. He scored 20 points including seven in a second quarter run that opened up a 13-point halftime lead.
STEUBEN COUNTY:
Curtis Robords of Arkport … The senior guard was named the Most Valuable Player of the Hinsdale Tournament. On the opening night of the tournament against Otto-Eldred of Pennsylvania, Robords scored 16 points and had eight rebounds in a 48 to 43 win. Then in the championship game, the Blue Jays easily defeated Hinsdale 52 to 32.
WAYNE COUNTY:
Mike Bonacci of East Rochester … The 5-foot-9 senior led the Bombers to wins over both Gananda and Marion. In beating previously unbeaten Gananda, Bonacci scored 18 points including 10 of 11 free throws. He scored 12 points in the win over Marion.
ROCHESTER LEAGUE:
Nedra Johnson of Franklin. The 5-foot-10 sophomore center had 18 points in a 61 to 31 loss to the School of the Arts and 19 points and 10 blocks in a 50 to 30 loss to Eastridge.
PRIVATE-PAROCHIAL:
Kate Donahue of Aquinas. The 5-foot-4 senior guard scored nine points, including the go-ahead bucket with two minutes left, and added eight assists in a 48 to 45 upset victory over Pittsford-Mendon.

Kate Stresing of Elba. A 5-foot-9 junior guard, Stresing scored 26 points as well as four rebounds, four assists and three steals in Elba’s 66 to 30 victory over Oakfield-Alabama.

Meghan Wheeler of Perry. Wheeler, a 5-foot-2 junior guard, totaled 15 points, 11 assists and 11 steals in victories over Wayland-Cohocton and Genesseo.
LIVINGSTON COUNTY II:
Tricia McIntyre of York. MacIntyre, a 5-foot-8 senior forward averaged 11 points, 10 rebounds and five steals in a 57 to 39 loss to Avon and a 45 to 40 win over Warsaw.
WAYNE COUNTY:
Krystal Adriaansen of Marion. Averaged 16 points in two victories last week while becoming Marion’s all-time leading scorer for girls’ basketball.

Heather Scott of Canaseraga. Scott, a 5-foot-5 junior guard, had 24 points and 10 steals in a 78 to 24 win over Belfast.

Nikki McGraw of Whitesville. The 5-foot-6 junior forward scored her first triple-double of the season, racking up 10 points, 10 rebounds and 11 steals in a 48 to 25 win over Andover. This the second time she’s been named Allegany Player of the Week.

The holiday season blooms with high school basketball tournaments from one end of Section V to the other. Both the boys and girls have their own tournaments and each of them name their most valuable players and their all tournament teams. Some seven boys who were named Birds Eye Foods-Section V Players of the Week were also named most valuable players. They were Rob Hudson of Red Jacket, Steve Batty of Kendall, Morgan Hammen of Bishop Kearney, Cory Magee of Fairport, Mike Chmielowiec of Batavia, Nate Brumfield of East High, and Brian Pullyblank of Cal-Mum. Named to all tournament teams were Clarence Jackson of Clyde Savannah and Cole Finnemore of Genesee Valley.

Girls who were named Birds Eye Foods-Section V Players of the Week and most valuable tournament players were Samantha Gaetano of Nazareth, Jamie Malloy of Penfield, Rachel Pagano of Greece Odyssey, and Melissa Hagmire of Livonia. Named to all tournament teams were Alyssa Fenyn of Newark, Krystal Sauer of Holley, and Amber Ingalls of Cuba-Rushford.

Cole Finnemore of Genesee Valley … The 5'9" senior guard scored 22 points including seven 3-point baskets in a 59 to 47 win over Warsaw in the opening round of the Keshequa Tournament. On the second night, he scored 14 points in the win over Keshequa, capturing the tournament title. Finnemore was named to the all tournament team.
FINGER LAKES EAST:
Jeff Bostic of Geneva … The 6'5" senior forward led the Panthers in an out-of-town interstate tournament, scoring 25 points in one game in double figures in three other games against tough competition.
FINGER LAKES WEST:
Rob Hudson of Red Jacket … The 6'1" senior guard was selected as the MVP of the Red Jacket Christmas Tourney, leading the Indians to the title with wins over Marion and Clyde-Savannah. In the two games, he scored a total of 33 points, 18 rebounds, six assists and two blocked shots.
GENESEE REGION:
Steve Batty of Kendall High … The 6'3" senior forward led the Eagles to the championship of the Holley Christmas Tournament. In the first game, he scored 27 points against Holley, then in the championship game he scored 21 points against Albion. He pulled down 11 rebounds against both opponents. He was named tournament MVP.
INDEPENDENTS:
Morgan Hammen of Bishop Kearney … Named the MVP of the Webster Tournament, Hammen scored 14 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in the championship game against host Webster Thomas. Hammen scored nine points in the second quarter to help the Kings pull away from the Titans.
LIVINGSTON COUNTY LARGE SCHOOLS:
Roy Williams of Bath … Williams scored 20 points in a 54 to 27 win over Addison but lost later in the week 49 to 37 to Penn Yan although Williams scored 14 points and had nine rebounds.
LIVINGSTON COUNTY SMALL SCHOOLS:
Brian Pullyblank of Cal-Mum … Brian Pullyblank led the Red Raiders to the championship of the Cal-Mum Tournament and was named the tournament's MVP. In the opening night, Pullyblank scored 9 points and had 14 points in a 61 to 50 win over Byron-Bergen. On the following night, he scored 16 points and had 13 rebounds in a 61 to 31 win over Attica.
MONROE COUNTY I:
Cory Magee of Fairport … Cory was voted the MVP of the Fairport tourney, earning the team title with wins over both Edison and Greece Athena. In the win over Edison, he scored 22 points and had 14 rebounds. Against Athena, he scored 13 points and had nine rebounds.
MONROE COUNTY II:
Nick Droegmoeller of Spencerport… He scored 15 points in a win over Greece Odyssey and 12 points in a loss to Greece Olympia. Both games were played in the Gund Arena in Cleveland where the pros play.
MONROE COUNTY III:
Mike Chmielowiec of Batavia … Chmielkowiec earned his second Birds Eye Foods-Section V Player of the Week award this season as the Blue Devils won the Batavia Lions Club Tourney. His performance also gained the tourney's MVP. Against Bishop Timon of Buffalo, he scored 40 points, had five assists and six steals. In the championship game against Perry, he scored 24 points, pulled down six rebounds and had eight assists.
ROCHESTER CITY-CATHOLIC LEAGUE:
Nate Brumfield of East High … The Oriental star led East to the championship of the Hilton Tournament with wins over Buffalo Traditional and Hilton. Against Buffalo Traditional, Brumfield scored 24 points and grabbed 14 rebounds. Then in the championship game against Hilton, Brumfield scored 18 points and had 12 rebounds. He was named the tourney MVP. It marked the second time this season that Brumfield was selected as Player of the Week in the City-Catholic League.
STEUBEN COUNTY:
Justin Hicks of Prattsburg … The 5'9" senior guard was a major factor in the Vikings winning their own tournament with victories over Avoca and Hammondsport. His two game totals were: 26 points, 22 rebounds, seven steals, and nine assists.
WAYNE COUNTY:
Clarence Jackson of Clyde-Savannah … The 6'1" senior guard scored 22 points on both nights of the Red Jacket Tourney. On the first night Jackson's points helped defeat York 68 to 46. However, his 22 points on the second night were not enough to topple the Red Jackets who prevailed 66 to 56. Jackson, however, was named to the all tournament team.
ALLEGANY COUNTY:
Amber Ingalls of Cuba-Rushford … The 5'7" junior forward had 12 points, 16 rebounds and seven steals in two games … a win over Keshequa and a loss to Hornell … at the Keshequa Tournament. She was named to the all tournament team.
GENESEE REGION:
Krystal Sauer of Holley … A 5'8" senior forward, Sauer scored 31 points and had 42 rebounds in the two games … a loss to Wheatland-Chili and a win over Finney … at the Wheatland-Chili Tournament. Named to the all tournament team, Sauer now has six double-doubles for the year.
FINGER LAKES EAST:
Alyssa Fenyn of Newark … The 5'6" eighth grade guard scored 30 points, had 11 steals and seven assists in two games at the Livonia Tournament … a 66 to 58 loss against Irondequoit and a 43 to 33 loss against Livonia. She was named to the all tournament team.
FINGER LAKES WEST:
Krisia Turnbull of DeSales … The 5'5" sophomore guard, Turnbull had nine points and 11 rebounds in a 57 to 39 loss to Mynderse.
INDEPENDENTS:
Jenny Miller of Webster Christian … The 5'6" junior forward had 34 points, 20 rebounds and 10 steals in a 45 to 28 loss to Gananda and a 45 to 29 win over North Star Christian Academy.
LIVINGSTON COUNTY I:
Melissa Hagmire of Livonia … Hagmire, a 5'3" senior guard, was selected tournament MVP of the Great Livonia shootout for her contributions in Livonia's victories over East and Newark.
LIVINGSTON COUNTY II:
Erica Conte of Caledonia-Mumford … Conte, a 5'3" sophomore guard, scored 25 points and added four rebounds and five steals in a victory over Bishop Kearney.
MONROE COUNTY I:
Jamie Malloy of Penfield and Shenise Johnson of Rush-Henrietta … Malloy, a junior guard, averaged 14 points and 14 rebounds and was named MVP for the Webster Tournament. Johnson, a freshman forward, averaged 22 points and 12 rebounds in two games for the Royal Comets.
MONROE COUNTY II:
Kristen Jurkowski of Greece Olympia and Schauna Comfort of Webster Schroeder … Jurkowski, a junior forward, averaged 16.5 points, 11 rebounds and four assists in two games last week. Comfort, a senior guard, averaged 26 points, 15 rebounds also over two games.
MONROE COUNTY III:
Rachel Pagano-Fuller of Greece Odyssey and Olivia Piacentini of Eastridge … Pagano, a senior guard, averaged 14 points, seven steals, 5.5 assists and was named MVP of the Byron-Bergen Tournament. She also became the first Odyssey girl to score 1,000 points. Piacentini, a junior guard, averaged 21 points, 11 rebounds and four blocked shots over two games.
PRIVATE/PAROCHIAL SCHOOLS:
Samantha Gaetano of Nazareth … The 5'7" junior guard/forward was named MVP of the Clyde-Savannah Holiday Tournament. In wins over Waterloo and Clyde-Savannah she had 10 rebounds, 10 assists and 12 steals.
ROCHESTER LEAGUE:
Tiffany Wilson of East … The 5'8" senior forward had 18 points, including two three-pointers, in a 49 to 42 loss to Livonia in the opening round of the Livonia Tournament.
STEUBEN COUNTY:
Megan Taft of Alfred-Almond … Taft had a double-double, scoring 11 points and pulling down 13 rebounds in a 46 to 28 win against Prattsburg.
WAYNE COUNTY:
Brittany McCray of Lyons … The 5'10" sophomore forward had 18 points, 20 rebounds, 11 blocks and 12 steals in helping Lyons win the Wayne Christmas Tournament with victories over Red Jacket and Wayne.

OVERTIME GAMES ADD TO THE EXCITEMENT OF HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL GAMES

There’s nothing more exciting than an overtime basketball game and Section V was treated to two of them last week. Webster Thomas and Greece Arcadia battled out a three overtime game with Webster Thomas prevailing 106 to 100. In a City-Catholic League game Marshall defeated Wilson Magnet in a two overtime game. In the Webster Thomas-Greece Arcadia match both Josh Zenkel of Thomas and Chris Greene of Arcadia were named Birds Eye Foods-Section V Players of the Week for their outstanding play. Zenkel set a new school record scoring 50 points. Not far behind was Greene who tallied 47 points.

Earning Player of the Week in the Marshall-Wilson Magnet contest was the Jurists Reid Houston. He scored six points and blocked three shots in the second overtime to pull away from the Wildcats.

Chris Potter of Scio … The 5'10" senior guard scored 16 points in a win over Belfast and 14 points in a win over Fillmore. He is averaging 20 points per game and is leading the Tigers in assists.
FINGER LAKES EAST:
Anthony Hall of Palmyra-Macedon … Hall led the Raiders to two wins last week, scoring 32 points against Midlakes and 23 against Mynderse (Seneca Falls).
FINGER LAKES WEST:
Zach Lockhart of Harley-Allendale-Columbia … Lockhart piloted the Wolves to two victories last week, scoring a total of 27 points and 12 rebounds in games against Naples and Bloomfield. In the 51 to 47 win over Bloomfield, Lockhart scored three consecutive three-point baskets in the fourth quarter to sew up the victory.
GENESEE REGION:
Brian Lang of Lyndonville … Lang had 30 points, six assists and four steals in a road win over tough Kendall. It marked the Tigers 10th straight win without a loss. However, despite Lang’s 25 points and seven steals Lyndonville dropped its first game, bowing to Attica.
INDEPENDENTS:
Sam Heatwole of Webster Christian … Heatwole put in a three-point basket and sank three foul shots over the final two minutes to seal the win over West Seneca Christian 41 to 40. Heatwole scored a total of 28 points including seven three-point hoops.
LIVINGSTON COUNTY SMALL SCHOOLS:
Carl Embury of Perry …Embury led the Yellow Jackets to two wins last week, scoring 18 points against LeRoy and achieving a career high of 34 points in a 73 to 43 win over Letchworth.
LIVINGSTON COUNTY LARGE SCHOOLS:
Andy Ratchford of Bath …Ratchford scored 18 points and pulled down eight rebounds in a 50 to 46 loss to Dansville.
MONROE COUNTY I:
Calvin Betts of Rush Henrietta … He scored 18 points and pulled down 19 rebounds to beat previously unbeaten rival Fairport, 72 to 50, before a full house.
MONROE COUNTY II:
Co-Players of the Week Josh Zenkel of Webster Thomas and Chris Greene of Greece Arcadia… Zenkel set a new school record of 50 points in a three overtime game against Greece Arcadia. He scored 30 points in regulation and 20 points in the triple overtime to defeat Arcadia 106 to 100. Zenkel made five three-point baskets. Greene scored 47 points, 29 in regulation and 18 in the three overtimes. Greene made four three-point baskets.
MONROE COUNTY III:
Chris Skipper of Pittsford Mendon … Skipper scored 18 points in a win over Greece Odyssey and reached a career high of 26 points in a loss to Midlakes.
ROCHESTER CITY-CATHOLIC LEAGUE:
Reid Houston … Houston played a key role in defeating Wilson Magnet in overtime, scoring six points and blocking three shots in the second overtime period. The final score was 99 to 90. Altogether Houston scored 15 points, had 13 blocked shots and 16 rebounds for the Jurists.
STEUBEN COUNTY:
Bruce Mourhess of Campbell-Savona … The senior forward played a key role in keeping the Panthers record unblemished with 10 wins and no defeats. In two games last week Mourhess scored 14 points in a 61 to 36 win over Arkport and 19 points in a 72 to 51win over Canisteo-Greenwood. He also had seven steals. He is shooting 63 percent on two-point field goal tries and 50 percent on three-point tries.
WAYNE COUNTY:
Jess Dennie of Williamson … The senior guard had a bitter sweet week, scoring 18 points against East Rochester and 19 points including three three-point baskets against Sodus. But the Marauders lost both games.
ALLEGANY COUNTY:
Kalynn Tindall of Friendship … The 5'7" sophomore center scored 21 points in a win over Scio. She is averaging 14 points and 10 rebounds per game.
GENESEE REGION:
Nicki Hurlbutt of Oakfield-Alabama … A 6 ft. junior center, Hurlbutt averaged 12 points, eight rebounds and three blocks in two Batavia Rotary Tournament games … a 45 to 26 loss to Batavia and a 36 to 25 loss to Caledonia-Mumford. She was selected to the all-tournament team.
FINGER LAKES EAST:
Vanessa Chain of Waterloo and Tara Grzskowiak of Marcus Whitman … Chain, a senior forward, scored 24 points and had nine rebounds against Newark and 19 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and three steals against Geneva. Grzskowiak, a junior forward, had 12 points and 10 rebounds against Victor as well as 24 points and 12 rebounds against Bloomfield.
FINGER LAKES WEST:
Taylor Smith of Harley-Allendale-Columbia … A 6'1" senior forward, Smith scored 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in a win over Bloomfield.
INDEPENDENTS:
Hillary Brower of Lima Christian … The 5'7" senior guard scored 11 points, grabbed eight rebounds and had seven steals in an 82 to 24 win over North Star Christian Academy.

Braedyn Ordway of Bath-Haverling … Ordway, a 5'7" junior guard, averaged 14 points per game in Bath’s wins over Livonia, Dansville and Addison.

TWO GIRLS REACH THE 1,000 MARK IN CAREER POINTS SCORED;
ANOTHER REACHES THE 1,000 MARK IN CAREER REBOUNDS

The girls are making the headlines these days. Three seniors made news last week when two of them, Corrine Keller of Greece Athena and Schauna Comfort of Webster Schroeder, each went over the 1,000 point career mark, earning Birds Eye Foods-Section V Player of the Week Awards in their respective leagues. Also earning a Player of the Week Award was senior Lucy Zver of Jasper-Troupsburg who went over the 1,000 mark in pulling down rebounds.

Don’t forget the boys either. Two of them won their second Player of the Week awards last week. Bloomfield’s John Eshleman poured in 81 points last week in three wins while Kyle Gifford of Prattsburg scored 63 points in two wins and one loss.

Rick Whitwood of Wellsville … The 6'2" senior forward scored 34 points on the week including 19 points in a 57 to 40 win over Bolivar-Richburg and 15 points in a 55 to 42 loss to undefeated Campbell-Savona. Whitwood also pulled down 22 rebounds last week, eight against Bolivar-Richburg and 14 against Campbell Savona.
FINGER LAKES EAST:
A. J. Tramhs of Waterloo … The 6'5" sophomore guard led the Indians last week with 26 points in a 58 to 53 loss to Pal Mac and 11 points in a 73 to 55 win over Wayne. Tramhs grabbed 26 rebounds and 17 assists in three games last week.
FINGER LAKES WEST:
John Eshleman of Bloomfield … Eshleman earned his second Player of the Week award last week pouring in 81 points in three games. He scored 30 points in a 63 to 43 win over Naples, 25 in a 67 to 59 win over Romulus, and 26 points and 10 rebounds in a 60 to 53 win over the School of the Arts.
GENESEE REGION:
Jason Swinton of Notre Dame of Batavia … The 6 ft. senior guard battled illness all last week but still managed to average 14 points and hit three 3-point baskets in three games. Still, the Irish managed to win two of the three games they played last week.
INDEPENDENTS:
Chris Verosky of C.G. Finney … The junior guard scored a career high 30 points in an 82 to 61 win over Northstar Academy. His 30 points included six 3-point baskets. Verosky also scored 15 points including three 3-point baskets in a 66 to 55 win over Andover.

Carl Embury of Perry …Embury poured in 26 points in a 70 to 40 win over York and helped defeat Warsaw 59 to 41.

Jim Niziurski of Churchville-Chili … Niziurski scored 12 points including one three-point basket to help defeat Brighton, 77 to 48. He also scored 18 points in a disappointing loss to Fairport.

Guillermo Ruffolo of Webster Thomas… The senior poured in 16 points including the winning basket with just 37 seconds remaining in a win over Greece Olympia. Ruffolo had 10 rebounds in the 77 to 74 win.

Brennan Reif of Pittsford Sutherland … Reif scored 19 points to help defeat cross town rival Pittsford Mendon 58 to 46. Reif tallied three 3-point baskets.

In the Quakers loss to Wilson, Nickson scored 25 points, had six assists and three steals; in the loss to Bishop Kearney, he had 25 points, five assists, six rebounds, and five steals; in the Marshall loss, he scored 15 points, had four assists and two steals. Rogers, the 6'5" East High senior captain, also had a banner week, averaging 21.5 points and 14.5 rebounds. He also managed to put in nine dunks in wins over city rivals Marshall and Edison Tech.
STEUBEN COUNTY:
Kyle Gifford of Prattsburg … The 5'10" senior forward won his second Player of the Week last week with 63 points. He scored 21 of his 63 points in a win over Bradford, 24 in a win over Canisteo-Greenwood and 18 in a loss to Notre Dame of Batavia. Gifford also had on the week 23 rebounds and nine assists.
WAYNE COUNTY:
Jesse Perotti of East Rochester … The Bombers senior guard helped ER to win last week over North Rose-Wolcott and Clyde Savannah, bringing their won-loss record to 11 and 1 and second place in the Wayne County League. In its 85 to 36 win over North Rose-Wolcott, Perotti had 18 points including one 3-point basket. Against Clyde Savannah he tallied 16 points.

Jackie Ward of Pittsford Mendon … Ward, a 5'6" sophomore guard, scored a total of 23 points, six rebounds, seven assists and four blocked shots in a loss to Greece Arcadia and a win over Pittsford Sutherland.

ARE THE HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL PLAYERS EATING HIGH-TEST FOODS?

The teenage high school basketball players must be eating high-test foods these days. Seven girls who were named Birds Eye Foods-Section V Players of the Week scored 20 or more points in games last week while three boys who also received Player of the Week awards for their play last week poured in several 3-point baskets en route to their team's victories. Then Arielle Szabo of Wellsville High last week went over the 1,000 mark in career points scored for her team. Then how about Shakista Woolfolk of of Newark High. She's only an eighth grader but last week scored 21 points and had four blocked shots in a win over Mynderse.

ALLEGANY COUNTY:
Lance Brubaker of Whitesville … The 5'7" senior point guard scored 17 points, pulled down five rebounds, had three steals and three assists in a loss to Genesee Valley but the Blue Jays came back later in the week with a win over Andover. Brubaker did his share scoring 13 points,grabbing five rebounds, executing three steals and handing out three assists, improving Whitesville's record to13 and 2. As point guard he had only two turnovers in last week's two games.
FINGER LAKES EAST:
Jeff Bostic of Geneva High … The 6'5" senior center had two 16-point games last week, one a 64 to 55 win over Penn Yan and the other a 64 to 28 win over Midlakes. He also excelled in defensive play. This was his second Player of the Week award this season.
FINGER LAKES WEST:
Nick Ghyzel of Naples … Ghyzel led the Big Green Machine to two wins last week, scoring 18 against South Seneca and 24 against Dundee.
GENESEE REGION:
Kyle Olmstead of Byron-Bergen … The 6'4" senior guard averaged 23 points, seven rebounds, and four assists last week in wins over Elba and Oakfield-Alabama.
INDEPENDENTS:
Ben Nagle of Aquinas … Nagle scored 16 points that included two 3-point baskets and nine rebounds in a 58 to 45 win over Palmyra-Macedon.
LIVINGSTON COUNTY SMALL SCHOOLS:
Alex Kreutter of Geneseo …The senior forward had an exceptional night in a 68 to 51 win over Lima Christian. He scored 29 points, had 20 rebounds, and seven steals.
LIVINGSTON COUNTY LARGE SCHOOLS:
Scott Young of Hornell …The junior 6'6" forward led the Red Raiders to wins last week over both Dansville and Livonia. Against Dansville, he hit nine out of 10 shots from the floor, scored 23 points, pulled down 12 rebounds, and dished out five assists. It was his third double-double of the season. Against Livonia, Young scored nine points, grabbed nine rebounds and had two assists.
MONROE COUNTY I:
Sean Marshall of Gates-Chili… Marshall scored 16 points, 12 in the third quarter and grabbed six rebounds in a 61 to 41 win over Churchville-Chili.
MONROE COUNTY II:
Mike Shoniker of Greece Arcadia… Shoniker led the Titans to a two-point win over crosstown rival Greece Olympia 77 to 75. He scored 24 points including five 3-point baskets and pulled down six rebounds. Shoniker made a foul shot with just seconds remaining to seal the win.
MONROE COUNTY III:
Nate Stein of Greece Odyssey … He scored 21 points that included three 3-point hoops that helped edge Pittsford Sutherland 53 to 50.
ROCHESTER CITY-CATHOLIC LEAGUE:
Lavonte Davis-Love of Edison Tech … Davis-Love scored 15 points and had 10 rebounds in a win over Bishop Kearney and 14 points and nine rebounds in a loss to McQuaid Jesuit.
STEUBEN COUNTY:
Bruce Mourhess of Campbell-Savona … The senior forward scored a total of 50 points last week in wins over Greece Odyssey, Canaseraga and Prattsburg. Mourhess is shooting 60 percent from the field and 71 percent from the free-throw line. The Panthers are currently 16 and 0.
WAYNE COUNTY:
Co-Players of the Week Elias Hilaire and Tom Muto, both of North Rose-Wolcott … Hilaire scored 16 points and had nine rebounds to help beat Marion in double overtime. He also tallied 21 points and pulled down eight rebounds in a loss to Lyons. Muto had a career high 24 points in the game against Marion, 11 of them coming in the double overtime. His foul shot with only four seconds remaining sent the game in overtime.
ALLEGANY COUNTY:
Co-Players of the Week Alicia Gordon of Bolivar-Richburg and Amber Moore of Whitesville …The 5'10" senior forward Gordon scored 18, 17 and 24 points in wins over Cuba-Rushford and Fillmore and a loss to Portville. The 5'8" junior forward Moore scored 49 points, grabbed 14 rebounds, had 15 steals, eight assists and four blocked shots in three league wins.
GENESEE REGION:
Kate List of Byron-Bergen … A 5'6" senior guard, List had 19 points and five rebounds in a 42 to 40 loss to Oakfield-Alabama.
FINGER LAKES EAST:
Co-Players of the Week Ashley Rath of Victor and Shakista Woolfolk of Newark … Victor freshman guard Rath had 13 points, three assists, five rebounds and three steals versus Midlakes as well as 20 points, two assists, two rebounds and two steals versus Waterloo. Newark eighth-grader Woolfolk had 21 points, eight steals, six rebounds, three assists and four blocked shots in a win over Mynderse as well as 10 points, six rebounds, four assists, three blocked shots in a win over Marcus Whitman.
FINGER LAKES WEST:
Jen Werder of Honeoye … A 5'9" senior guard, Werder had 41 points and 14 rebounds in wins over Bloomfield and South Seneca.
INDEPENDENTS:
Arielle Szabo of Wellsville … The 5'8" senior forward averaged 14 points and 16 rebounds over three games last week. She also went over 1,000 points for her career in a win over previously undefeated Jasper-Troupsburg.

Stephanie Schroedl of Wayland-Cohocton … Schroedl, a 5'11" senior forward, averaged 15 points and eight rebounds per game in Wayland-Cohocton's games against Dansville and Bath.

Lacy McCreedy of Caledonia-Mumford … McCreedy, a 5'6" senior guard, scored 12 points in a loss versus Perry and 20 points in a win over Warsaw.
MONROE COUNTY I:
Co-Players of the Week Morgen Skiff of Churchville-Chili and Lindsay Dakin of Rush-Henrietta … Skiff, a 5'8" freshman guard, had a triple-double with 17 points, 14 rebounds and 11 assists in a win over Gates-Chili. Dakin, a 5'7" junior guard, had 23 points in a win over Penfield.

Co-Players of the Week Jori Davis of Greece Athena and Michelle Gibaud of Greece Arcadia … Davis, a 5'11" sophomore forward, averaged 16 points, 11 rebounds and five assists in three wins last week. Gibaud, a 5'5" senior guard, averaged 11 points, seven rebounds, four steals and four assists in two wins.

Co-Players of the Week Hannah Meier of Greece Odyssey and Molly Plovanich of Brighton … Meier, a 5'11" senior forward, averaged 13 points, eight rebounds, four blocked shots and three steals in three games. Plovanich, a senior guard, averaged 26 points in two wins.

THREE SCHOOLS DOUBLE DIP THIS WEEK WITH PLAYERS FROM BOTH THEIR BOYS AND GIRLS TEAMS EARNING PLAYERS OF THE WEEK AWARDS
Congratulations today to three high schools in Section V for having both one of their boys and one of their girls earn the Birds Eye Foods-Section V Player of the Week awards for outstanding play last week. The three high schools are Batavia, C. G. Finney, and Waterloo. Batavia students honored were Greg Merritt who led the Blue Devils to a win over Pittsford Mendon and Amanda Page who also led the Blue Devils to a win over Pittsford Mendon.
C. G. Finney's Andy Marchand sank five 3-point baskets to help floor Bradford while his classmate Jen Hoag scored a total of 40 points in three wins last week including a victory over Bradford. A. J. Trahms of Waterloo scored 19 points against both Penn Yan and the School of the Arts for wins while Sykina Santell scored 16 points and had eight rebounds to help defeat Penn Yan.

Co-Players of the Week David Kephart and Ryan Shea, both of Andover High … Kephart, a 6 ft. senior forward, scored a total of 43 points last week in wins over Houghton (50 to 30), Scio (58-53), and Lima Christian (71 to 51). He also pulled down 41 rebounds, 12 against Houghton, 16 against Scio, and 13 against Lima Christian. Ryan, a sophomore guard, scored 18 points against both Houghton and Scio and 16 against Lima Christian. He also grabbed 8 rebounds against Houghton and 12 against Scio.
FINGER LAKES EAST:
A. J. Trahms of Waterloo High … The sophomore guard earned his second Player of the Week award in scoring 19 points against Penn Yan and the same number of points against School of the Arts. He also pulled down five rebounds each in wins over both opponents. Trahms also had a total of 6 steals and 5 assists in Waterloo’s two wins.

Joe Costello of Geneva DeSales … Costello led the Saints to a win over Naples, scoring 16 points, dishing out five assists, and snatching three steals.

Dan Halter of Kendall … The 6'9" center scored 21 points and had 17 rebounds in a 59 to 47 win over Oakfield-Alabama.

In Cal-Mum's 54 to 52 win over Letchworth, Pullyblank scored 14 points, pulled down 10 rebounds, had 5 assists and 3 steals. In a 61 to 54 win over the Irish, Pullyblank registered 24 points, had 12 rebounds and two steals.
LIVINGSTON COUNTY LARGE SCHOOLS:
Chris Stanton of Honeoye Falls-Lima …Stanton led the Cougars to a 64 to 45 win over Dansville, scoring 18 points, five of his baskets were 3 pointers, and he had 5 rebounds and 3 steals.

Anthony Rogers of Brockport… Rogers scored 28 points including three 3-point baskets along with 9 rebounds, 7 assists and 6 steals in a 72 to 55 win over Gates-Chili.

Steve Kerr of Greece Athena… Kerr hit a 19-foot basket at the buzzer to beat cross-town rival Arcadia 71 to 70. He scored a total of 19 points.

Greg Merritt of Batavia … Merritt scored a team high 19 points including one 3-point basket in a 58 to 52 win over Pittsford Mendon in a game played at Genesee Community College.

Clarence Jackson of Clyde Savannah … Jackson had a stellar week, leading the Golden Eagles to wins over both Williamson and Lyons. Against Williamson, he scored 21 points, had 8 assists and 5 steals in a 66 to 56 win. Against Lyons, Jackson scored 38 points, dished out five assists, and captured 7 rebounds.
ALLEGANY COUNTY:
Co-Players of the Week Leah Kiman of Bolivar-Richburg and Nikki McGraw of Whitesville …The 5'10" senior forward Kiman had 16 points, six rebounds and three steals in a win over Wellsville. The 5'6" junior forward McGraw picked up her second Player of the Week honor. In two games last week she scored 34 points, grabbed 20 rebounds and had four steals, two blocked shots and two assists.
GENESEE REGION:
Co-Players of the Week Rebekah Miller of Alexander and Marci Jonathan of Elba … A senior guard, Miller had 21 points, eight rebounds and three steals against Lyndonville. A sophomore forward, Jonathan had 18 points and 13 rebounds in a win over Lima Christian and eight points and six rebounds in a win over Hilton in leading Elba to the championship of the Hilton Hy Burritt Tournament.
FINGER LAKES EAST:
Co-Players of the Week Sylina Santell of Waterloo and Angela Vistocco of Victor … A 5'9" senior forward, Santell scored 16 points, had eight rebounds, and collected three steals in a 64 to 40 win over Penn Yan. Sophomore Vistocco had a career high 17 points along with three rebounds and two steals in a win against Geneva.

Sam Gable of South Seneca … A 5'9" sophomore forward, Gable had 16 points and 11 rebounds in a 56-55 win over Bloomfield.

Two Section V basketball players became the first participants to earn three Birds Eye Foods-Section V Players of the Week today. They are Brian Pullyblank of Caledonia-Mumford and Kyle Gifford of Prattsburg. The Cal-Mum forward has excelled in points scored, rebounds and steals, and last week scored the winning basket at the buzzer to defeat Livonia. Gifford sank three 3-point baskets last week, bringing his career total to 125, believed to be the largest number ever achieved in Section V.

Nick Bozzelli of Victor … The 6'4" senior guard scored a total of 59 points last week in games against Wayne (20 points), Waterloo (23 points), and PalMac (16 points). He also pulled down 35 rebounds on the week as the Blue Devils beat Wayne but lost tough games to Waterloo and PalMac.
FINGER LAKES WEST:
Keith Rolentaitis of Romulus … Rolentaitis led the Warriors to wins over both DeSales and Honeoye. Against DeSales, he poured in 28 points and against Honeoye he scored 23 points in an overtime victory.
GENESEE REGION:
Rob Crowley of Attica High … The 6 ft. junior guard scored a total of 55 points, helping the Blue Devils to two wins in three games. In an overtime win against Alden, Crowley scored seven of his 24 points in overtime, sealing the win. He was 9 out of 10 from the foul line. In a mid-week win over Pembroke, he scored 20 points, again going 9 out of 10 from the foul line. The Attica team leader scored 11 points in a loss to Byron-Bergen. In the three games, he sank a total of eight 3 pointers.

Alex Carney of Webster Christian … Carney scored 26 points including 12 of 14 free throws in a 63 to 53 win over Northstar Christian Academy.

The Cal-Mum forward led the Raiders to three wins last week, scoring 19 points in a 45 to 44 win over Livonia, 20 points in 65 to 47 win over Mt. Morris, and 18 points in a 51 to 46 win over Warsaw. The Cal-Mum player put in the winning basket at the buzzer in the win over Livonia. He also had 14 rebounds in the Livonia game, eight rebounds and six steals against Mt. Morris, and 11 rebounds against Warsaw.
LIVINGSTON COUNTY LARGE SCHOOLS:
Scott Young of Hornell …Young led the Red Raiders to two wins in three games last week. Against Honeoye Falls-Lima, Young scored 16 points and pulled down eight rebounds in a 47 to 41 win. Young saw limited action against Keshequa because of the one-sided result, 68 to 31, but still managed to score six points and grab six rebounds. In the 52 to 47 loss to Wellsville, Young tallied 14 points and had 12 rebounds.
MONROE COUNTY I:
Tyler Barley of Rush-Henrietta … Tyler scored 20 points including four 3 pointers against Fairport. He also scored 12 points in a win over McQuaid and 18 points including three 3 pointers in a win over Henninger of Syracuse in the Image Capital Shootout.
MONROE COUNTY II:
Jesse Munding of Greece Olympia … Munding scored 23 points including a half court buzzer beater to defeat Webster Schroeder 59 to 56.
MONROE COUNTY III:
Ricky Hopp of Brighton … Hopp scored a career high 14 points including three crucial free throws in the fourth quarter to help defeat Pittsford Mendon 50 to 35. Hopp had one 3 pointer.
ROCHESTER CITY-CATHOLIC LEAGUE:
Kevin Bryant of Wilson Magnet … The senior guard had a productive week, scoring 22 points in a 68 to 60 win over Greece Odyssey and 14 points in a 71 to 57 loss to East High. He sank five 3-point baskets against Odyssey and one against East.
STEUBEN COUNTY:
Kyle Gifford of Prattsburg … The 6'2" senior guard/forward earned his third Player of the Week Award for his outstanding play last week. He scored 29 points in the Steuben County Tournament with a hard fought 59 to 56 win over Hammondsport. He made 12 free throws in 13 tries and sank three 3-point baskets. His three 3-point baskets lifted his career total to 125 3 pointers believed to be the largest total ever by any player in Section V.
WAYNE COUNTY:
Jess Dennie of Williamson … The 6'1" senior guard led the Marauders to two wins last week over Red Creek and North Rose-Wolcott. Against Red Creek, Dennie scored 32 points including six 3-point baskets and six steals. Against North Rose-Wolcott he had 29 points including four 3 pointers and six steals.

Co-Players of the Week Katlynn Pfalzer of Pembroke and Nicole Meisner of Attica … A senior guard, Pfalzer averaged 14 points and nine rebounds in games against Attica and Oakfield. A junior guard, Meisner averaged 17 points and had a total of six 3-point baskets in games against Pembroke and Byron-Bergen.
FINGER LAKES EAST:
Sylina Santell of Waterloo … A 5'9" senior forward, Santell is named for the second week in a row. She had 18 points, 21 rebounds (13 offensive) and four assists against Mynderse and 18 points, four rebounds, and three assists against Marcus Whitman.
FINGER LAKES WEST:
Amanda Zoneville of Red Jacket … A 5'9" senior forward, Zoneville had 55 points and 37 rebounds in three games. This included the 1,000th point of her career.
INDEPENDENTS:
Stephanie Hudson of Lima Christian … The 5'6" sophomore guard scored 36 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, had 12 steals and six assists in two games.
LIVINGSTON COUNTY I:
Kim Proper of Letchworth … Proper, a 5'9" junior guard, totaled 18 points, 16 rebounds and 14 assists in two games.
LIVINGSTON COUNTY II:
Nickie LoVerde of Mt. Morris … LoVerde, a 5'9" senior forward, scored 21 points, grabbed 15 rebounds and blocked five shots in an overtime win against LeRoy.
MONROE COUNTY I:
Co-Players of the Week Kayleigh Duda of Penfield and Danielle Schiano of Gates-Chili … Duda, a 5'9" junior forward, averaged 22 points in two games with a career high 28 against Churchville-Chili. Schiano, a 5'4" senior guard, averaged 18 points in two games.
MONROE COUNTY II:
Co-Players of the Week Corinne Keller of Greece Athena and Marissa Canori of Webster Thomas … Keller, a 5'11" senior forward, who earlier in the season earned a Player of the Week award, averaged 23 points and 11 rebounds in two wins. Canori, a 5'5" sophomore guard, averaged 17 points in two games.
MONROE COUNTY III:
Co-Players of the Week Becky Kant of Pittsford Mendon and Shannon Long of Batavia … Kant, a 5'8" junior forward, had 19 points, nine rebounds, and five assists in a win over Brighton. Long, a 5'9" senior forward, had 12 points and eight rebounds in a win over Greece Odyssey.
PRIVATE/PAROCHIAL SCHOOLS:
Nicole Jones of Nazareth … The 6'1" freshman center had 33 points, 26 rebounds, and 20 blocked shots in three wins.
ROCHESTER LEAGUE:
Tiffany Wilson of East … Wilson, a 5'6" senior guard, is named for the second time. She scored 16 points in a 47 to 44 win over Wilson and 28 points in a 58 to 48 win over the School of the Arts.
STEUBEN COUNTY:
Alicia Holt-Button of Jasper-Troupsburg … The 5'7" senior forward averaged 5 points, 10.5 rebounds, 4.5 steals, and 3 assists in J-T's last two games leading the Lady Wildcats to an 18-1 record.
WAYNE COUNTY:
Breanne Darby of Sodus … Darby, a 5'6" junior guard,averaged 13 points and 12 rebounds in victories over Williamson and North Rose-Wolcott.
