NAZARETH WINS

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Feb.
3, 2006) -- Sophomore Ryan McAdam (pictured) posted game highs in points with
24 and rebounds with eight Friday to lead host Nazareth past Ithaca in men's
basketball, 95-88.
The Empire 8 Conference victory
evened Nazareth's conference record at 4-4 and improved its overall mark to
7-12. Ithaca is 9-10 overall and 5-3 in the Empire 8. Both teams shot well
from the field as they combined to make 23 three-point baskets. Ithaca shot 14
for 27 from beyond the three-point arc, while Nazareth went 9 for 18.
McAdam, of Fairport, made 5 of 7
shots from the field, including two three-point baskets to lead the way for
Nazareth. He also went 12-for-13 from the free throw line in 38 minutes of
action. Three other Nazareth players also scored in double figures, led by
Matt Groot's 19 points. Joe Canori finished with 16 and freshman Jeff DeHimer
came off the bench to score 10.
Nazareth got off to a good start
in building a 14-point first-half lead before Ithaca rallied to close within
four, 43-39, by halftime. Canori scored 11 of his points in the first half to
pace the Golden Flyers.
Nazareth was ahead in the second
half until Ithaca tied the score briefly at 53-53 on a free throw by Jonathan
Whetstone with 14:58 left. Nazareth answered with a pair of free throws from
Kyle Nelson with 14:37 to play and the Bombers never caught up again.
Nazareth's lead grew as large as
15 points, 74-59, following a basket by DeHimer with 8:09 to play. The Bombers
came back to within three, 78-75, on a three-pointer by Brian Joe with 3:09 to
play. McAdam helped spread the lead back to eight by hitting a three-pointer
and a pair of free throws.
Nazareth returns to action
Saturday for another Empire 8 Conference home game against Elmira at 4 p.m. (WHTK-AM
