High school basketball players of the week


(February 7, 2006) Boys

Monroe County I: Corey McAdam and Cory Magee, both from Fairport. McAdam had 20 points vs. McQuaid, 7 vs. Webster Schroeder and 16 vs. Gates Chili. Magee had 21 points vs. McQuaid, 16 points and 16 rebounds vs. Schroeder and 18 points and 19 rebounds vs. Gates Chili.

Monroe County II: Joe Scumaci and Tim Knight, both from Greece Olympia. Scumaci hit a 3-pointer to force overtime vs. Greece Arcadia. Knight sent the game into double-OT with another 3-pointer.

Monroe County III: Brennan Reif, Pittsford Sutherland. Reif had 20 points vs. Penfield and 20 points vs. East Irondequoit Eastridge.

Private-Parochial: Chris Verosky, Finney. Verosky scored 23 points vs. Charlotte, 20 vs. Marion and 16 vs. Lima Christian.

City-Catholic: Terrell Moore, Charlotte and Bobby Bell, East. Moore had 28 points and 15 rebounds vs. Finney. Bell had 30 points vs. Jamestown, 35 points vs. Wilson and 18 points vs. Vestal.

Finger Lakes East: Tyrone Collins and Dom Mazzochi, both from Geneva. Collins scored 20 points vs. Newark and Mazzochi had 21 points vs. Palmyra-Macedon, including the game-winning basket.

Finger Lakes West: Zach Cooley, Romulus. Cooley had 16 points vs. Naples and 21 points vs. Red Jacket.

Genesee Region: James Davis, Oakfield-Alabama. Davis had 24 points vs. Wheatland-Chili and 13 vs. Lyndonville.

Livingston County Large Schools: Aaron Hallett, Caledonia-Mumford. Hallett had 33 points and 11 rebounds for Cal-Mum.

Livingston County Small Schools: Ryan Nugent and Eric Kanouse, both from Keshequa. Nugent had 11 points, including the winning basket at the buzzer vs. Bolivar-Richburg and six points vs. Mount Morris. Kanouse had 20 points, 10 rebounds vs. Bolivar-Richburg and had 24 points, including 12 in overtime, vs. Mount Morris.

Wayne County: Mike Dermady, Gananda. Dermady had 18 points vs. East Rochester and 14 points vs. Clyde-Savannah.

Independents: Jaanal Beckford, Northstar. Beckford had 31 points and 23 rebounds vs. GOW school of Buffalo, had 29 points and 18 rebounds vs. West Seneca and 31 points and 13 rebounds vs. Freddie Thomas.

Allegany County: Derek Edwards, Cuba-Rushford. Edwards had 15 points vs. Portville and 12 points vs. Jefferson.

Steuben County: Tyler Parke, Hammondsport. Parke had 16 points vs. Addison and 20 points vs. Prattsburgh.

Girls

Monroe County I: Shenise Johnson, Rush-Henrietta. Johnson averaged 20 points and 18 rebounds over two games.

Monroe County II: Kacey Pratt, Spencerport. Pratt averaged 18 points and 12 rebounds in two games.

Monroe County III: Brittany Greco, Pittsford Sutherland. Greco had 11 points and 10 rebounds vs. Pittsford Mendon.

Private-Parochial: Emily Rigoni, Mercy. Rigoni had 25 points vs. Aquinas.

Rochester League: Emma Cannon, School of the Arts. Cannon totaled 93 points and 52 rebounds in three wins, including a school-record 47 points vs. Marshall.

Finger Lakes East: Alyssa Fenyn, Newark. Fenyn had 19 points, including the winning basket vs. Canandaigua and 22 points vs. Geneva.

Finger Lakes West: Krista Turnbull, Geneva DeSales. Turnbull had 19 points, 17 rebounds vs. Dundee and 25 points, 14 points vs. Harley-Allendale-Columbia.

Genesee Region I: Courtney Turcer, Alexander. Turcer averaged 10 points and 15 rebounds over three games.

Genesee Region II: Nicki Hurlbutt, Oakfield-Alabama. Hurlbutt averaged 26.5 points over two games.

Livingston County I: Amanda Coots, Bath. Coots had 23 points vs. Wayland-Cohocton and 18 points, 12 rebounds vs. Livonia.

Livingston County II: Kim Proper, Letchworth. Proper had 17 points vs. Geneseo and 18 points vs. Caledonia-Mumford.

Wayne County: Nichole Clark, Marion. Clark had eight points vs. East Rochester and 14 points vs. Clyde-Savannah.

Independents: Stephanie Hudson, Lima Christian. Hudson had 43 points and 18 rebounds over three games.

Allegany County: Lisa Ellison, Whitesville. Ellison had 35 points and 10 rebounds in two games.

Steuben County: Erin Flaitz, Canisteo-Greenwood: Flaitz had 33 points, 27 rebounds and 16 assists in three games.

The weekly award winners are chosen by Section V basketball after receiving nominations from area coaches. The awards are sponsored by Birds Eye Foods.
