Fairport Ends Athena's Run

It was
quite a ride for J-Mac and Greece Athena. Jason McElwain, the Trojans autistic
student manager who scored 20 points in the regular season finale, was their
inspiration in capturing the Section V Class AA boys basketball title.
Athena's postseason run came to an end Wednesday night.
Class AAA champion Fairport had four players in double figures as the Red
Raiders posted a 66-58 win in the Class AA state qualifier.
Kyle Downey led the way with 20 points, 18 of them coming on three pointers.
Cory Magee has 13 points and 14 rebounds with Corey McAdam adding 13 points
and 10 Boards. Kelly Condello scored 17. Athena's Ricky Wallace and Levar Goff
both finished with 22.
Fairport is 21-1 and moves on to the State Western Regional Saturday in
Buffalo.
Penn Yan won the Class B state qualifier 54-45 over Bishop Kearney. Campbell-Savona
defeated Lyons 69-54 in the state qualifier for Class C.
Rush-Henrietta was a 70-58 winner over Greece Athena in the girls Class AA
state qualifier. The Royal Comets move into the western regional with a 21-1
record.
Nicole Jones scored 11 points with Samantha Gaetano adding eight rebounds,
seven steals and six assists in leading Nazareth Academy past Greece Oydssey
53-26 in the Class B state qualifier.
