Downey scores 17 points to spark Fairport victory

(January 4, 2007) — Kyle Downey scored a game-high 17 points as visiting
Fairport defeated Churchville-Chili 62-44 Wednesday night to remain in second
place behind Rush-Henrietta in Monroe County Division I.
Downey scored five of his 17 points, including his only 3-pointer, during the
first quarter as Fairport opened the game on a 7-0 run.
The Red Raiders scored on their first four possessions and Kevin Borden added 12
points and Mark Bruce scored 10 points for Fairport (7-1). The No. 15
state-ranked Red Raiders play at No. 11 R-H at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Brian Gebhardt scored seven of his nine points during a 17-12 third quarter to
help put away host Churchville-Chili.
The Saints (6-3) were held to 14-of-49 shooting, including 1 of 8 on 3-pointers.
