R-H visits Fairport for basketball showdown

Staff report

(February 7, 2007) — Fairport defeated Rush-Henrietta three times last season en route to its first Section V title since 1975.

This year, the two Monroe County boys basketball powers could meet four times, including next week’s revived Monroe County tournament.

Game 2 is tonight at 7:45 p.m. at Fairport High. With a large crowd anticipated, no tickets will be sold at the door.

Rush-Henrietta (14-1) won the first meeting by 60-55 as sophomore sensation Dane Miller had 26 points, 19 rebounds, 5 blocks, 4 steals and 3 assists.

Fairport (13-3) was led by senior Kevin Borden with 21 points. Junior guard Kyle Downey, the leading scorer in the Monroe County with a 21.9-point average, was held to just 12 points in the opener as he was dogged by Royal Comet guards Ricky Reed and Ozel Franklin.
