With 40 seconds to play Lindsay McKinnon received a pass from Brittany Wilson,
drove to the basket and scored to break a 52-52 tie. Fairport held the lead
for the rest of the game.
Wilson hit a foul shot with six seconds left to seal the victory.
The Red Raiders (12-6) played a 2-2-1 press
in the first half and took an 11-point halftime lead, but in the second half
the Patriots went on a 30-15 run over the third and fourth quarters to take a
four point lead.
Kim Masterton scored 11 of her 19 points in
the run.
With 3:50 to play Wilson hit two shots as the
Red Raiders tied the game 52-52.
Erica Yohannes had two baskets with the last minute to pull the Patriots
(13-5) within three points.
Wilson hit a foul shot with six seconds left
to make it a 3 point game and finished with a career-high 29 points and
career-high 20 rebounds for the win.
“Once Penfield made that run both teams went
back and fourth with the lead and then Brittany would help get us up a little
bit,” Fairport coach Scott Forrest said.
“Either team could’ve won and we just had a
couple more shots than they did in the fourth quarter.”
The Raiders play Pittsford Sutherland on
Tuesday at 6 pm at Penfield in the Monroe County Tournament.
