Fairport 54, Greece Athena 45Kevin Borden hit a 3-pointer in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter, capping five straight points for him, to give Fairport a 48-42 lead.
Kyle Downey scored nine of the Red Raiders (16-3) first 11 points and finished with 17 and eight rebounds on the game.
Athena played a box-and-one defense against Downey in the third quarter and opened the half on a run behind Kyle Boline and Brian Benson. The two combined for 12 of Athena’s 14 points in the quarter.
Fairport trailed 39-38 going into the fourth but quickly grabbed the lead and pulled away.Boline finished with eight points with eight rebounds and Benson added 20 points and three steals for the Trojans.
