Mar 18 -- Class AA Final :: Bishop Maginn 65 - Mount Vernon 68

Sunday, March 18, 2007 6:06 PM EDT

The champions reign.

Mount Vernon scored five straight points to break a tie midway through the final period on its way to a three-point win.

Maginn tied the game on a pair of free throws with 2:03 to go. Mike Coburn answered with a layup on the next possession and MV never trailed again.

Maginn cut the lead to four points and had the ball with 15 seconds left, but Talor Battle saw his layup rim out. MV rebounded and made a pair of free throws to ice things.

Coburn was named MVP.

A real back-and-forth game here. Nobody has led by more than four since early on, and a good final quarter should wake up this sleepy building.

Mount Vernon's Mike Coburn was taken down in the lane in the waning seconds, but drew no foul call.

Maginn nails a 3-pointer near the buzzer -- again -- to head to the locker room ahead by three.

Talor Battle, Maginn's Penn State-bound guard, is really holding his own against Mount Vernon's heralded backcourt. The defending Federation champs may be in trouble here.

Jaluan Taylor hit his second 3-pointer near the buzzer to tie the game.

Bishop Maginn is the last Section II team playing, boys or girls, and will try to bring home a title against nationally ranked Mount Vernon.
