Fairport senior guard Kyle Downey made a desperation shot from about two strides into the frontcourt to tie the score 69-69 and force overtime. The Royal Comets (12-3, 9-0 league) seemed unfazed despite the loss of a five-point lead during the final 24 seconds of regulation.

Dezerick Brooks, who scored a team-high 24 points for R-H, made a 3-pointer with about 20 about seconds remaining in the overtime period that gave the Royal Comets a 78-73 lead. The lead was at three points again when Cruz Sanchez made two free throws with 5.8 seconds remaining.

Downey scored a game-high 30 points, 22 after the third quarter for Fairport (11-4, 8-3). Dane Miller had 16 points for R-H. The victory was R-H%u2019s second over Fairport this regular season.

Fairport, R-H boys game sold out

(January 30, 2008) — All tickets for tonight’s boys basketball game between Fairport and Rush-Henrietta at R-H have been distributed, R-H athletic director Tom Stewart said today.

The Red Raiders and host Royal Comets are both 11-3 and enter the game tied for the top seed in the upcoming Section V Class AAA tournament.

The game also features Fairport senior guard Kyle Downey, the 2007 All-Greater Rochester Player of the Year, and R-H junior forward Dane Miller, a 2007 All-Greater Rochester selection. Downey leads Monroe County Division I in scoring at 26.5 points per game. Miller averages 20.9.

R-H defeated Fairport, 67-47, on Dec. 21.

The varsity game is scheduled to tip off at 7:45 p.m.

Fairport Red visited Greece Arcadia and walked away with a well balanced scoring victor. Lead by Ryan Ruhland with 11 points, Austin Fluellen with 4, Alex Dudek with 4 and Ben Abbott with 2. Strong rebounding by Steven Weber and John Spitzer helped Fairport pull away to Victory.

In a very hard fought home game against Irondequoit, Fairport's Ryan Proud scored 8 points in the second period to reduce the Irondeqouit led to only 4 points at the half. Fairport came up short with 13 seconds to go Dante Morrison was fouled. Making the front end of the shooting foul, the second shot was refounded by Jason DeFranco who took two shots in tight inside action. The second shot bounced out to Ryan Ruhland who attempted a three pointer, being run over by two Irondequoit players as time ran out. No fouls called. Husseling Defense was provided by Alex Dudek and Billy Wilke.

What a Opening Game, Fairport down 8 points at the half and then 17 points at the end of the third period Fairport Red Roared back, led by Jason DeFranco's 22 points most in the forth quarter, to tie the game. Fairport pulled away in the second overtime with a few freethrows by Ross Ruhland and a strong 20 point performance by Dante Morrison.
