Rochester Gas and Electric will announce today that the company plans to sponsor
the Section V Basketball Tournament finals at Blue Cross Arena Feb. 28 and 29,
March 1 and 3.
RG&E's "significant contribution" is expected to cover rental charges for the

a total of 15 games.
On to Lake Placid
A few things to keep in mind about the Nordic state championship on Tuesday and
Wednesday at Lake Placid: Section V has a strong track record in the meet,
particularly Honeoye Falls-Lima, which won the team boys and girls competitions
last year.
Bloomfield's Amanda Moreland and HF-L's Steve Mangan, among the best in the
state and sectional champions this season, are two competitors to watch.
Pittsford Sutherland, Pittsford Mendon and Fairport also will be represented at
the state championships.

Kyle Downey is Fairport's new scoring king.
The senior guard eclipsed 1991 graduate Stu Downing's record of 1,159 points in
an 81-76 overtime loss at rival Rush-Henrietta on Jan. 30. The reigning
All-Greater Rochester Player of the Year has 1,291 points and a school-record
161 3-pointers headed into the Saturday's Section V Class AAA tournament opener
vs. Franklin.
'A' showdown
Aquinas (15-6) was without three key players in its 51-48 loss Jan. 4 at
Pittsford Sutherland, but the Little Irish get a shot at redemption tonight.
Sutherland (15-6) plays host to the defending Section V Class A boys basketball
champions in a No. 4 vs. No. 5 seed matchup.
Spencerport's grip
Spencerport completed the dual meet portion of its wrestling season as the
winner of its last 127 Monroe County league division matches.
Greece Athena is the last team to top the Rangers in a league dual, Dec. 14,
1990, more than 17
