(March 3, 2008) — Shenise Johnson scored a season-high 34 points,
including 16 straight for her team to start the fourth quarter, to power
No. 2 seed Rush-Henrietta to a 62-59 win over No. 1 Fairport in the
Section V Class AAA girls basketball championship game tonight.
A boisterous crowd at Blue Cross Arena at the War Memorial saw R-H (20-3)
win a fifth straight crown and Johnson, the senior forward and McDonald’s
All-American, earn a fourth straight tournament MVP award. She added 20
rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals and moved into ninth place Section V’s
all-time scoring list with 2,100 points.
The Comets will face Greece Athena (14-9) at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Victor
in the Class AA state tournament qualifying game. R-H has beaten Athena
the past three years in that matchup.
Junior forward LaDonya Rolle added 12 points for R-H. Sophomore forward
Allyson DiMagno led Fairport (20-3) with 23 points and senior guard
Brittany Wilson added 17.
The Red Raiders had beaten R-H twice during Monroe County Division I play
this winter.
